Written for the Arkansas Tech University Concert Chorale, conducted by Gary Morris, my friend and mentor, in loving memory of his parents, Edward and Jessie Morris.
Recording of the Bentonville High School A Cappella Choir, Terry Hicks, conductor
The text is selected from the writings of Helen Keller. I am utterly amazed at the imagery created in the words of a woman so sensory deprived. Writing this work was very special, as it felt like a chance to give back to one of my greatest musical mentors: Gary Morris, director of choral activities at Arkansas Tech University.
Through the dark, I sense a holy passion. Music that beats with the pulses of God. God is in me. The light in my darkness, the voice in my silence. Silence. I feel the flame of eternity in my soul. I possess the light which shall give me vision a thousandfold when death, when death sets me free.
